Know Your Members

Dr. Ram Kumar is one of the senior-most Consultant Ophthalmologist at Dr. Kumar's Eye & Vision Centre, Sector 16-A, Chandigarh. He is an accomplished writer, public health educator, socio-medical scientist, diligent social worker, organizer possessed by the qualities of leadership from the beginning and a votary of ethical practice in ophthalmology and other branches of medicine. Born at Village Keorak (Kaithal) Haryana on January 26, 1946, all round Best School Student, made a mark in extra-curricular activity at DAV College, Jalandhar. He was Editor of College Magazine "Gomco" and Secretary of the Students' Union at Patiala Medical College. He passed his M.S. (Ophthalmology) from PGI, Chandigarh in 1971. Uveitis and vision correction were his main academic interests during residency. He wrote a book "Your Eyes" at that time for health education. His hobbies include writing fiction/public health education, photography, playing . He has written on all aspects of health and has over 60 books to his credit. He has been regularly writing for health columns of different newspapers. His recent release of books include 4 edited volumes on Hospital Administration, Disaster Management, a guide to better Woman's Health after Menopause etc. His next projects are "Cobweb of Allergies" and "Life Style Diseases". He has also hosted a Public Health Education portal under the name of "gomco chandigarh.com". He has been holding several free eye operation camps and social service camps every year. He was conferred PGI award of excellence in 1992. He has been regularly organizing/attending various conferences/seminars since 1968. He was co-organizing secretary of IMA-Punjab Conference, 1968, held at Rajpura. He has also attended several AIOS, NZOS, DOS and COS conferences. He founded GOMCO, Chandigarh as its secretary general in 1997 and organized 14 conferences in a row successfully. He has been President of COS 1999 to 2001, Director Eye Care and Welfare Society since 1976, Vice President, PGI Doctors Alumni Association, Member Rotary

Dr. Mangat R. Dogra was born on June 10, 1954 in a remote village of district Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. He completed his medical graduate degree from Medical College, Shimla in 1977 and MS Ophthalmology from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh in 1981. He was awarded prestigious Vitreoretinal Fellowship for 2 years from 1989 to 1991 at University of Maryland Hospital Baltimore, USA. 

He jointed faculty of department of Ophthalmology, PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1991, where he is currently an Additional Professor. Prior to this, he also served as an Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at Medical College, Shimla w.e.f. 1986 to 1989.

Dr. Dogra's exclusive area of work, patient care, teaching and research has been vitreoretinal diseases and surgery for the last 13 years. He has published 62 papers in peer reviewed national and international journals and presented 197 lectures at various national and international conferences as a invited guest speaker or free papers. He has delivered 34 invited guest lectures on retinopathy of premnaturity (ROP) at various places in the country or abroad. He was awarded special guest oration by National Neonatology Forum of India in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of ROP.

He has been Chairman/Convenor of various sessions on Vitreoretinal diseases in national and international conferences.

Dr. Dogra is happily married to Dr. Mangla who is a practising gynaecologist and is blessed with a son and daughter.
