swelling in the ankles   Posted By Satyabrata Mukherjee    Date : 17-Dec-08   01:36 AM     Reply

I felt pain in both the heels in August 2008. Later on, both my ankles got swollen with no appreciable pain. I visited a doctor in London in end October and he diagnosed sarcoid arthritis as also erythema nodosum. He administered a prednisolone injection and said that the swelling will go away, but further steroid treatment will be required. All tests like USG, MRI, blood tests for CBC, ESR (high 55, CK (high), Total Protein (high), globulin (high), Ureic acid, Iron (low), C Reactive Protein (high), RF negative, ACE (high), have been conducted. Even the biopsy at the place where erythema nodosum was suspected, has been done. Now the doctor in Dubai does not agree with the UK doctor's diagnosis. He says, it is sero negative arthritis and has asked me not to take steroids and has prescribed Salazopyrin tablets 2 gm per day. There is no swelling after the steroid injection and I have been taking the tablets also for more than a month now. I am a confused man today because of two opinions. Will the swelling come back again after two months (the doctor in UK said that the effect of the injection will last for 2 months). Meanwhile I have lost almost 10 kg in the last 4 months. I shall be in Kolkata between 24th December and 4th January and would like an opinion and a diagnosis. I am 50 years of age, non alcoholic, non smoker.
