Let us not confuse between patient management & man management. In a corporate hospital this 20%activity is complimented by 80% of non-medical activity. Therefore about 80% of the staff in a hospital are not medicos. To manage a hospital, you have to be well versed in Healthcare IT to introduce best evidence based management practices in medicine. The conflict is perennial. A Doctor will never understand the psyche of a non-medico. The ethos & pathos contribute to a huge gap between the 2 sections, egos not withstanding. The Doctor's psyche towards any non-medico is usually that of disdain, accept it or not, express it or not. Doctors all over the world have proved to be very good patient managers and bad man managers. So let there be the right person for the right job, headed by the apt qualification & experience and let Doctors manage the never-ending threats that challenges the existence of mankind. Symbiosis, Pune, The Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, a premium management Institution, XLRI Jamshedpur & many noted Institutions have evolved pragmatic courses in Hospital Management. Let us not forget that 80% of Healthcare is in the hands of Private Entreprise. Reach me at [email protected], if you have any queries.
