Trigeminal Neuralgia   Posted By V.B.Raju    Date : 03-May-08   05:45 AM     Reply

Dear Doctors - I am just 60 and working as senior management executive in an MNC. I have been suffering from excruciting and stabbing pain in left jaw once in a month since past one year.I stay in Pune and visit Mumbai to be with my family normally once in a month for one or two days. Typically, pain use to trigger only when I used to be in Mumbai. The day I leave Mumbai, pain use to vanish. My family Physician in Mumbai initially gave me pain killers and asked me to see a dentist. Dentist took X-ray of TMJ and dignosed the pain due to hyper-movement of jaws(He said I keep grinding my teeth contineously even in my sleep).Just three months back when again I was in Mumbai, the pain triggered and this time it continued for two days and pain also started in right jaw. I rushed back to Pune to my dentist and while talking to her, I had another short and accute burst of pain which lasted for a minute or two and twisted my face. Just then I indicated to doctor that this is the pain I am suffering from. Then doctor immediately dignosed it as TN and prescribed carbamazepine(Mazetol) tablets of 100mg thrice a day. Thus for the past three months I am taking this medicine and no pain so far including during my two visits to Mumbai.I have not consulted Neurosurgeon so far. Now, can you please advise me what should be my future course of action
