Acetazolamide Eye Drops   Posted By Dr Prafull J. Mokadam    Date : 13-Jun-01   05:01 PM     Reply

Dear Colleagues,

It is proved beyond doubt that Acetazolamide has no role as far as its TOPICAL action is concerned. Yet 'JAWA' is promoting and selling ACTAMID eye drops. These acetazolamide eye drops have no efficacy as far as reduction of Intra ocular pressure is concerned.Because of the low cost (Rs. 80/- per bottle) many of our colleagues are using it as a CHEAP alternative to Dorzolamide(cost around Rs 800/-)

Will somebody enlighten if I am wrong ? Will Glaucoma society of India look in to this important matter ? Has JAWA bothered to conduct Clinical and animal trials before pumping this drug in to market ? When I asked these questions to their representative, he vanished and has never returned.
