Termination of pregnancy required?   Posted By Swami    Date : 08-May-07   02:09 PM     Reply

The patient is diagnosed as 1.5 weeks pregnant when she came for first check up. Pregnancy was confirmed through a urine test.

Within a week, slight discharge of brownish residue was found but was not taken seriously. In the 3rd week of pregnancy, heavy bleeding takes place after a sexual act and also a 0.5 inches clot was ejected immediately. Fearing this the patient came for a checkup the following day and it was pronounced as a miscarriage after feeling the uterus and as narrated by the girl.

Tablets METHERGINE 0.2MG (5 tablets) and DOXYCYCLINE 100mg (5 Capsules) were prescribed by the doctor for the patient, to be taken for a week, in order to clean the uterus following the miscarriage. After consuming all the tablets, the patient still has all the symptoms of pregnancy (like morning sickness and heaviness in the stomach). So a scan was taken where it is found that the fetus has grown and she is 5 weeks pregnant!

Now is it safe to continue the pregnancy? The patient is having symptoms of depression for MTP and is also equally nervous about continuing the pregnancy (fearing the health conditon of the fetus).

Can you please advice?
