Occipital Nerve Stimulation for Intractable Headaches   Posted By Lesco Rogers, MD    Date : 25-Nov-00   09:38 PM     Reply

The management of intractable migraines/chronic daily headache can be a vexxing problem. Despite many medications and interventional nerve blocks many of these patients continue to experience severe debilitation.

The recent work by Weiner et al. was confirmed by our practice. The stimulation of the Occipital nerve utilizing Medtronics Pisces Quad leads resulted in upto 90% relief of headaches in greater than 60% of these patients who were refractory to management in sophisticated headache clinics.

I believe this therapy has great promise for the refractory patient in the near future.
