Plate removal   Posted By Ted Price    Date : 14-Apr-06   09:12 PM     Reply

Dear Doctors,

In January of 2002, I suffered an accident in which my right femur was severly fractured high up near the ball joint and a plate with 6 large screws was put into place top hold me together. Recently, I have been working hard doing yoga exercises to restore lost movement and reduce discomfort and I decided to see an ortho surgeon to make sure I am not exacerbating the problem. This doctor has recommended that I have an additional surgery to remove this plate now that the leg has long knitted.

My question: is this surgery really advisable?

As an additonal question, the leg was set rather poorly and is now around 2.5cm's shorter than the normal leg. The angle between the ball joint and the shank of the fumur is not the same either. Would it be a bad idea to have the leg re-set?
